SLC has hosted many Coyote Cups throughout the 2025-2026 school year. Coyote Cup Competitions are games that SLC hosts during Community Meeting in which students have a chance to win points for their grade level. Whichever grade level has the most points gets a pizza party at the end of the year. Points are usually scored according to placement in the competition: 100 for first, 75 for second, 50 for third, and 25 for fourth.
The first Coyote Cup of the year was the Relay Race at Sonoma Academy’s Family Picnic, which was a potato sack race across the field. The winners were seniors Beau Leary (‘26) and Joshua Lim (‘26), who won the first points of the school year for the senior class.
At the Community Meeting that took place on Halloween, SLC hosted Dress to Impress, a costume competition, in the PAC.
Another event involved teachers being wrapped in toilet paper by two people from each of the grade levels. Teacher Amber Greer was the most wrapped by the toilet paper, and the freshman class won, giving them 100 points. To read more, look at Ashlynn Dexter’s (‘26) Article on Halloween at SA.
The Battle of the Besties was next, a challenge where two people from each grade level, people who were besties, had to guess what the other person was thinking as they both answered questions. While people struggled to say correctly what the other person was thinking, the duo that could read each other’s mind the best were the seniors.
Kate Bilal (‘27) and John Berry (‘27) hosted the food drive. The freshman class won, earning them 100 points.
Every year around the time of Thanksgiving, Sonoma Academy’s Great Pie Eating Showdown is hosted in the GAC. It was a competition with a lot of pie being stuffed in mouths and was entertaining for the school to watch. The goal is to eat the most pie you can in a certain amount of time. At the end, the seniors took the win. To read more, Lorelei Taylor (‘27) wrote an article on The Great Pie Eating Showdown.
One of the SLC Coordinators, Maddie Castro (‘26), commented that the pie-eating showdown was her favorite Coyote Cup Competition. Castro said, “I think a lot of people don’t like it because it’s kind of disgusting, but I have always really liked that one because it involves action.”
On January 21st, Just Dance was held in the PAC, and Jane Murray (‘27) snatched a win with her dance moves, earning easy points for the juniors.
The cookie decorating contest was held right before we went into winter break. This contest required being creative, but also being neat, making sure all the decorations stayed on the cookie. By the end of the challenge, the seniors won by having the best decorated cookie with their melted icing and sprinkles on top.

The first-ever Scoop and Serve ping pong tournament was hosted in the plaza, and the finals came down to Ben Rubinstein (‘28) and Lange Look (‘26). To read more, look at Cecily Hauser’s (‘26) recap on Scoop and Serve.
In the spring, SLC hosted an egg hunt. There was an egg for each grade level hidden around campus. The sophomore class went all in and scooped up all the eggs, blocking points for juniors and seniors, winning the challenge and earning 100 points for each grade.
Mikaela Resch (‘26) said that Scoop and Serve was her favorite Coyote Cup. Resch said, “There was a really good turnout, it felt really right for the school, and people were eating ice cream while watching some fun competitive ping pong.”
Finally, the last Coyote Cup of the year was Jeopardy, where one student from each grade level had to answer questions relating to SA’s history and lifestyle. In the end, senior Atticus Moss (‘26) won Jeopardy for the senior class.
In the end, the senior class had the most points, totaling up 825 points and winning the class pizza party for the year.
Of course, there is always more to look forward to next year. Resch and Castro hope to see more sport-related Coyote Cups in the future, and bring Coyote Cups back to the gym. They hope games such as Hungry Hungry Hippos and volleyball will return in the future.
