Aidan Crockett (‘26) is our newest Athlete of the Week! Aidan is a dual-sport athlete at Sonoma Academy, playing defense for our soccer team and running for the track team. Aidan recently ran a 23.5 second 200m dash into negative wind, which is very impressive for a season opener. He’s one of Sonoma Academy’s fastest sprinters in the 200m and 400m events.
Aidan’s friends and teammates praised him for “showing leadership and hard work through his commitment. [Aidan] is always there to work his hardest and push himself to be his best. He has been a great role model for everyone in track.”
I know you’re really big into soccer. What led you into track?
My dad did track in high school and college, and he wanted me to give it a try. Honestly, I was kind of scared to start it, because I was afraid everyone would be really fast and I would be really slow. But, I realized that it was possible to, you know, train and get faster over time. Once I joined, I realized I was having a lot of fun making good friends.
What track events are your favorite?
I’d say it’s the 200 [meter dash] and the 100 [meter dash] because they’re low cortisol. Coach makes me run the 400, though. You can call me lazy. I just don’t like competing in that event.
Do you have a favorite pre-meet routine?
I mean, I just eat whatever breakfast my mom makes, you know? I don’t really have anything [specific].
How do you balance your sports and academics?
I mean, you just gotta have a lot of love for the game. It’s definitely tough.
Do you have a favorite pro athlete you look up to?
Clearly Messi.
