Ryan Crawford (‘28) is the newest Athlete of the Week! Ryan is a pitcher and an outfielder on our Baseball team at Sonoma Academy. He is a great teammate with a strong work ethic, and was nominated for this position after an amazing performance against Willits High School, in which he was one pitch away from a perfect game, something that has never happened in SA history before. Despite being only a sophomore, Ryan’s teammates consistently praise his leadership skills, commenting on how hard he works to make sure that everyone has fun and plays their best. Congratulate him if you see him around campus!
What is your favorite part of playing baseball on the SA team?
I would say that it’s really unique for a varsity team to be made up of entirely sophomore and freshmen. Being close in age means that we share similar interests. I think that that’s a really cool aspect that not many high school baseball teams have.
How long have you been playing baseball?
I was probably about three years old when I started playing baseball.
How do you manage your schoolwork with athletics?
I mean, so far, I haven’t really had too much homework, only a little bit more than last year. I try to find time in the day to do it, and whenever I get home, I do my homework before anything else.
What is your favorite snack to eat before playing baseball?
I would probably say either sunflower seeds or a protein bar, depending on the day.
What is the biggest life lesson you have learned while playing on the SA team?
Especially for our team, it’s really all about having fun, rather than how much experience you have. As long as you try your best, people are gonna support you no matter what. It’s a big team-building experience, and everyone is really encouraging to one another.
