What’s your favorite part about basketball?
I love my teammates, they’re amazing. It’s always a different group, but the sport has always been consistent for me.
How long have you played basketball, and what has been your favorite moment?
I’m coming up on five years now. My favorite moment ever would probably be when I had a really good group of teammates, and we started a club team that was just all of us that lived in Healdsburg. There was a big group of us, all in the same grade, who loved basketball, so we created our own team. It was amazing to play with them because they were all such close friends of mine, and like I said before, my favorite part is the people I play with. Here at SA, making it to the state and going so far is absolutely incredible!
How do you feel about your season now that it has ended?
Looking back on it, it went so fast. Being a transfer, the sit-out period took away a lot of my time. And I’m disappointed that I missed out on that, but I’m so glad I came in strong: I started well, we played awesomely, and we did a really good job in league and out of league during the playoffs.
What values do you hope to instill in a team?
I think the thing I want to bring to the team is making sure everyone knows they’re there for a reason, that they deserve to be there, and that they’re an asset to the team. It’s important that everyone feels included and that everyone works in unison.
How has being a transfer impacted athletics?
Well, I hate the sit-out period. I’m gonna be sitting out until spring break for track season. But I loved the fact that everybody accepted me so much. That’s the one big thing I was worried about. I was so worried that I would start the volleyball season at the beginning of the year. wouldn’t know anybody, and they would be like, “huh, who’s this girl?” But everyone was super duper accepting, and I found my spot and place. In basketball, that’s been in center, starting, and in volleyball, I’ve been middle, and I’m super excited to see what the track season brings. My first practice is actually today!
