Casey Pasdach (’27) is the newest November Athlete of the Week! Casey is a junior and one of the most committed rowers at SA. She became AOTW for her hard work and dedication to rowing at NBRC, and serves as an inspiration to many athletes on our Sonoma Academy campus. Here’s our exclusive interview with her:
Tell us more about your sport (rowing). How do rowing competitions work?
We have a couple different boat classes. We have eights, fours, two people boats, and there are boats for singles as well. A lot of people think that it’s similar to kayaking, but it’s more of a “leg-and-back-sport” instead of an “arm-sport”.
When did you start rowing?
I started rowing my 8th grade year in the fall.
Do you have a rowing inspiration or a goal?
I mean, I’m hoping to row D1 in college.
What’s the best part of rowing? Do you have a favorite moment from your sport?
My favorite moments are when I get together on a course with my team, and, you know, you’re not seated in maybe the best position, but you end up powering through, and you end up qualifying for a bigger event. And, you know that you did that together, and you beat the bigger teams that maybe are much stronger and faster, and have more people to select from.
Any tips for Sonoma Academy students who are aspiring to succeed at rowing, or sports in general?
You just have to stay dedicated to your sport. Just put as much work as you can into it and try to enjoy it while you have these years in high school.
